Mystery of the disappearing wheelie-bin

The bin was put out on Friday morning, but by lunch-time it was nowhere to be seen. I walked up and down the road inspecting the neighbours' bins to see who had taken it, to no avail. I phoned the council recycling office and reported it missing. This morning a brand new bin appeared in the drive! That's what you call service.

NB Broxtowe Council is controlled by the Lib-Dems!

The garbage truck ran over someone's wheelie bin in the lane last week. I think they just picked it up and threw it in the back with the rest of the rubbish. Could explain your missing wheelie bin - or else some old dear felt her shopping trolley was no longer big enough...

Perhaps they were after confidential documents as a step towards identity fraud?

I bought two wheelie bins recently, paid a tenner each, perhaps one of them was yours...

We don't have those sorts of car-boot sales round here!

Actually I bought them from a recycling charity who seemed to be renovating them. Oswestry council had changed their refuse wagons and then had to change the wheelie bins to meet the handling mechanism of the new wagons. I paid a tenner each. You can buy them from farm and building supply companies, usually £25 plus VAT.
Car boot season starts after easter. Wheelie bins are the property of the council and therefore not for general resale.
They are very handy for collecting leaves, storing grit and salt and animal feeds.
What else could you use a wheelie bin for?
