Dinka Cattle


100,000 head of cattle went on ahead as the vulnerable women and children were shipped by barge from Juba to Bor in Jonglie State. Seven thousand remaining Dinka from Bor are stuck in Yei having been attacked and had their cattle stolen.

There is misery everywhere though no more so in developing countries than in the west. In fact I can say that I have seen more desperate people and people in desperate situations in the UK than I ever have abroad. It is violence and relative not absolute poverty that destroys people. Yes, the picture is superb. Pity it is not one of mine!

It is more destructive because you see wealth everywhere yet live in poverty yourself. If everyone lived in absolute poverty there would be no comparison to make.
